Covered in Metal

I’ve always liked cover-songs, be it one metal band covering another, a metal band covering a non-metal band or vice-versa. So, inspired by MetalForAll.com‘s cover section, I complied a small selection of my favourite cover-songs, including an example of each category.. Enjoy!

You can never go wrong with a Slayer cover, but this Enslaved version of Jesus Saves is awesome, I never knew Gruttle could reach such high notes!

More after the break!

Absu regularly does covers (Deathcrush, Morbid Scream), but this cover of Iron Maiden‘s Transilvania is one of my favourites:

It’s also fun if metal bands cover non-metal tracks, Carnival in Coal did a whole CD, making both metal versions of pop-songs and extremely soft/cheesy versions of metal songs. Here’s an example of both:

The other way around is cool too. Johnny Cash did tons of covers, like this Soundgarden song:

This James ‘BandHopper’ Murphy (Death, Testament, Obituary, etc.) version of Al Di Meola‘s Race with Devil… is also amazing, they’re both brilliant guitarplayers of course

    I’ll Be Back!

  2. Thanks!

The Jesus Saves cover is from the first ‘Slaytanic Slaughter’ tribute album. I think it’s out of print, but certainly worth tracking down. Other bands on the tribute include Dissection, Hypocrisy and Edge of Sanity!
